ASD is dedicated to sharing value with our community, and one way we do that is to offer an array of eco-friendly products. The goal of these products is to lower the strain on our environment and ensure a safer and cleaner future for generations to come. At ASD, we want to educate and encourage our customers on sustainable practices in order to protect and nurture the beautiful island of Aruba.

Initiatives
ASD believes in leading by example where sustainable and eco-friendly operation is concerned, and we have set our initiatives toward that goal. One of the first green initiatives at ASD was the discontinuation of plastic disposable bags back in 2015, paired with a new selection of eco-friendly alternatives. This effort was followed in 2016 with the elimination of any Styrofoam products from our store. The purpose of these initiatives was to encourage our customers to purchase more eco-friendly solutions and operate more sustainably. With single use plastic bags becoming illegal in 2017, we have been actively trying to support any businesses in making the transition to cleaner options. Currently ASD continues to motivate and support our customers in making the switch to eco-friendly solutions for their business needs.

Best Practices
During the 2015 renovations, ASD chose to invest in eco-friendlier facilities. Later in 2016, ASD built a solar car port to use cleaner energy. As of 2017, it has been the goal of ASD to become a paperless operating company. Presently, ASD uses energy efficient cooling, uses LED bulbs exclusively and operates almost completely on solar energy. The financial gain from these practices is redistributed toward its staff by year’s end in an attempt to not just share value with the community, but with the heart of ASD as well.

How it all started
A few years after the establishment of ASD, we realized our products were not ending up where they were intended. With a huge amount of plastic and foam products littering the beaches, drifting in the wind and half buried in the sand, we at ASD made a promise to ourselves. We promised we would not be part of the problem anymore. With this in mind, we started to offer biodegradable alternatives in 2015, and begun the process of eliminating plastic bags and Styrofoam products from our selection. In 2018, we decided to remove all single use, non-biodegradable plastics from our shelves.

- Did you know that Styrofoam takes 500 years to forever to disappear? So the Styrofoam cups dumped in landfills are there to stay.
- Styrofoam causes choking and starvation in wildlife.
- Styrofoam products are not just bad for the environment, they are also bad for your health. They are known to leach potentially cancer-causing chemicals into what you are consuming.
- Styrofoam products float on water and blow in the wind, spreading polystyrene everywhere because of its lightweight.
Our Biodegradable products are the solution to all these problems, made from natural materials, they come from nature and go back in nature, do not leach toxic chemicals and neither hurt our wildlife. Say no to environmental degradation!
